Born in Cullybackey, just a few minutes walk to the River Maine, it’s only natural that Bill is a Lifelong member of the Maine Angling Club whose first chairman was his Grandfather.
Trout fishing has been something that has always stayed with him and he believes it’s more about being at a beautiful river than just catching trout.
During the seventies Bill travelled throughout Europe and India. He enjoyed a brief spell of scuba diving, his claim to fame being running out of air at 60 feet underwater and living to tell the tale.
Bill spent much of his youth playing sport and excelled in many disciplines.
A keen squash player when the game was very popular in the eighties, Bill played Division One squash for Kiltonga; one of Northern Irelands top squash clubs.
Then in the late eighties, as a sponsored windsurfer he spent nine weeks, training on the Island of Maui.
When he began his career with BT Bill was one of the first people in Northern Ireland to use a computer on a professional basis, so it’s fitting that he’ll help you get to grips with yours.
He trained in UNIX and was the top-level support for the most advanced digital network in Europe. Bill has always had an avid interest the digital world and the Internet from its arrival in the mid nineties.
Bill left BT and founded his own social media agency Net4Wiseowls in April 2010. With the business rebranded in August 2014 under the name Bill McCartney, and ready for the new challenges ahead, Bill’s passion for social media has never been stronger.
In a fast moving competitive world being good is not enough, you have to be exceptional. To achieve this requires focus on doing one thing really well and for Bill that one thing is social media.
Pushed by his belief that it’s always important to give something back, Bill became a BITC Business in the community mentor and also volunteers with Age Concern, teaching a number of Internet classes each year.
